The backlash in only one value and does not differ whether plus or minus. (I know that mechanically, I can look at installing an air shock or something, but I really want to avoid changes like that right now, especially since that would be pretty fiddly to set up properly.) This makes some sense as the weight of the headstock is holding the assembly against the upper faces of the threads on the screw. However, when moving down (-Z), the backlash is either zero or at least less than that moving up. (My X/Y backlash is only around 40-50 steps) The backlash is significant: on the order of 700+ steps.
